MARBC and Russian Americans Chamber of Commerce announce 3rd Annual "Russian Mosaic" Cultural Festival

Philadelphia, PA - Mid-Atlantic - Russia Business Council is proud to announce the Third Annual "Russian Mosaic" festival. The festival is a birthday celebration of the third-biggest ethnic community in Philadelphia, and reflects the rich and diverse customs and contributions of the over one million Russian speakers who live and work from New York to D.C. This free event produced by Creative Collective Arts Center, Inc. will take place on Sunday, August 7, 2005 from 12:00pm to 6:00pm at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing, Philadelphia. The event is organized by the Russian Americans Chamber of Commerce of the Greater Philadelphia Area, and co-organized by Mid-Atlantic - Russia Business Council. NTV America and Western Union International are festival sponsors, and support is also provided by PECO Energy, sponsor of the Multicultural Series, and Independence Blue Cross, sponsor of the 2005 Summer Season at Penn's Landing.

The festival will present six hours of non-stop concert programming showcasing original folk, classical, and ballroom dancing performances. Featured performers will include: the New York show-group "Barynia" with a program of music, singing and dancing; "International Ballet Theatre," whose Maestro Vladimir Shoumeikin is celebrating 60 years in ballet, presenting a program entitled the "Mosaic of Russian Dance;" Philadelphia Dance Sport Academy, showcasing children's ballroom dancing under Ilya Reznik; young performers from the Ballet School of Olga Kresina and the Dance School of Julia Yaremchuk; winners of the first community vocal competition "Young voices" performing popular songs; Mark Sobol's Klezmer Band performing Russian, Jewish, and Klezmer music in jazz interpretation; Palais Royal restaurant's show group; and children's groups and soloists from the Cultural Center of Children's Creativity "Rising Stars," and from day care centers "Land of Children" and "Right Step."

A myriad of festival participants will share various aspects of Russian culture with visitors. Artisans and craftsmen will present traditional Russian crafts such as woodcarving, painting, jewelry, needlework, and photography. Several local businesses will present their achievements. Russian, Jewish, Georgian, Moldavian and Central Asian cuisine will be available for tasting. Food vendors will include popular Philadelphia restaurants "Melodia" and "Paradise" selling authentic Russian and Georgian dishes, and "Lylia's Continental Cuisine" from Cherry Hill specializing in Moldavian cuisine. Kabala Learning Group, Lubavitch Center for Russian Jewry, Russian Christian Mission, and other organizations will represent different aspects of the rich and diverse spiritual life of the Russian community in Philadelphia.

This year we also celebrate the 60th anniversary of victory in the Second World War, and the community will honor veterans represented by Alliance of the Veterans of War and Labor.
