Prof. Kotkin is a professor of history and the director of the Program in Russian and Eurasian Studies at Princeton University. His books include Magnetic Mountain: Stalinism as a Civilization and Armageddon Averted: The Soviet Collapse, 1970-2000; he is currently writing a book entitled Lost in Siberia: Dreamworlds of Eurasia, a study of the Ob River valley over seven centuries.
