As the MCO nears its forty-fifth anniversary, the ensemble continues to play to sold-out audiences worldwide. The New York Times exclaimed "What we heard was the peak of perfection…our expectations were so far exceeded that one was left open-mouthed in admiration." The Orchestra’s expertise and skill draws many of Russia’s most esteemed soloists – and their recordings regularly receive various prizes for their excellence. The MCO’s complete Mozart Symphonies have become collector’s items among fervent classical fans, and their "unrivaled" interpretations of the works of Vivaldi, Corelli, Albinoni and Bocchereini are legendary. The MCO’s esteem has been solidified over the years by the fact that the most important Russian composers began writing music specifically for them. For example, Dmitry Shostakovich entrusted the first performance of his 14^th Symphony to the Orchestra, saying: "This must be the greatest chamber orchestra in the world."

Since 1991, the MCO has maintained a vigorous touring schedule with over 80 concerts a year throughout Europe, Asia, South America and Scandinavia. So well respected is the MCO that in 1995 they were Russia’s cultural ambassador at the 50^th anniversary celebrations of the United Nations Organization in San Francisco. In 1995 they also became the first Russian orchestra to tour South Africa. In 1996, the Orchestra was invited to perform for heads of state at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting Charity Concert in Switzerland. Highlights of the MCO’s nearly sold-out 1999-2000 U.S. tours included two concerts in Carnegie Hall as well as over other 30 appearances.
