RUSSIA'S COMPLEX RELATIONSHIP WITH THE WEST

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - The Foreign Policy Research Institute, with the support of the Pennsylvania - Russia Business Council, is pleased to announce a seminar and dinner with Anatol Lieven, Senior Associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, DC, which will take place on April 8, 2002.

 

 

Please join us for an evening of cutting-edge discussion on topics of great importance to anyone interested in trade with Russia or the Newly Independent States.  Mr. Lieven's presentation will be followed by dinner.  Mr. Lieven's presentation, titled

 

 

"Russia's Complex Relationship with the West"

 

will take place at

the Rittenhouse Hotel

 210 West Rittenhouse Square

Philadelphia, PA

 

The seminar will begin at 4:30 p.m.

Dinner will follow at 6:00 p.m.

 

 

Lieven is a Senior Associate in Foreign and Security Policy with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Educated at Cambridge University, Lieven began his career as a freelance journalist in India before joining the BBC External Service in 1987. He reported on Pakistan and Afghanistan for the London Times in the late 1980s before serving as the newspaper's correspondent in the former Soviet Union from 1990 to 1996. Lieven's books include "Chechnya: Tombstone of Russian Power" (Yale University Press, 1998), "The Baltic Revolution: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and the Path to Independence," (Yale University Press, 1989) and "Ukraine and Russia: A Fraternal Rivalry" (US Institute of Peace, 1999).
